Over Stitches
In Over Stitches, I bring together fragments of used paper, hand-sewn into uneven forms where threads and seams remain exposed. These imperfections are intentional—edges that do not align, stitches that wander—each mark carrying the trace of slow, deliberate labor.
Once pieced together, the stitched surface is coated with gesso, becoming a ground for painted flowers. The blooms unfold across seams and scars, suggesting that beauty is not separate from imperfection, but arises through it.
The act of stitching recalls the quiet value of craftsmanship—an attention to the handmade, the vulnerable, and the resilient. Each thread becomes both repair and ornament, a visible reminder that fragility, care, and persistence are inseparable parts of creation.
